Please select another date. \nThis is America’s first\, original\, Swiftwater course designed specifically for canyoneers! Tuition includes camping\, elaborate handouts\, and a Certificate of Completion!  It will begin at 7am each day and will finish around 3:00pm on Friday and Saturday\, and at 5:00pm on Sunday. \nThis course will be challenging … and empowering!\nCanyons with strong current\, water volume and hydraulics pose dangers that dry-ish canyons (Class ‘A’) and low-flow or standing-water canyons (Class ‘B’) do not.  This course provides skills\, knowledge and experiential training FOR exactly that type of environment\, IN exactly that type of environment.  We’ve taken the relevant skills from a Swiftwater Rescue Course and combined them with the relevant skills for Canyoneering in Class ‘C’ canyons and have produced this hybrid Swiftwater Canyoneering Course! \nYou must provide your own transportation to and from the location; you must provide your own PPE including your standard canyoneering gear (harness\, helmet\, hardware\, etc)\, AND a full wetsuit (4/3 preferred) and a Type 3 PFD.  Uber Adventures will provide the ropes and all training equipment. \nPrerequisites:  This course cannot be your first foray into the sport of canyoneering.  The skills and methods in this course are a supplement to previous training.  While we recommend that you have taken Uber Adventures Technical Canyoneering Course (ACE-L1) AND at least one of the Uber Adventures Advanced Canyoneering (ACE-L2)\, or Canyon Essentials (ACE-L3)\, or Canyon Rescue (ACE-L4) courses\, exceptions can be made by request if 1) you have taken a thorough series of other APPROVED courses\, or 2) you have SIGNIFICANT canyoneering experience\, or 3) you plead your case well! The course will reconvene on Saturday and Sunday at the same location and will run from 7am to 5 or 6pm both days with hands on learning. DESCRIPTION:Technical Canyoneering Course (ACE-L1) – Los Angeles\, CA\nLearn to Canyoneer!     \nCanyoneering and Canyoning are terms used to describe an adventure sport that combines hiking\, wading\, swimming\, jumping\, sliding\, boulder-hopping\, scrambling\, rock-climbing\, sometimes packrafting and always rappelling — often over waterfalls. \nCanyoneering is an emerging adventure sport in the US and has grown significantly in popularity over the past decade.  This sport has unique risks and requires a very specific set of technical skills to enjoy it safely.  Rock-climbing\, caving\, mountaineering and swift water training teach related skills for your ‘toolbox’\, but Canyoneering has become highly specialized\, and much of the gear and many of the techniques of Canyoneering are distinctly different from those of the other sports … and that’s where we come in! \nPrerequisite: None \nThis is a beginner to intermediate course which teaches the skills necessary to safely descend canyons as part of a group (being a competent participant and the knowledge to recognize and implement safe canyon practices). This course is designed to quickly get the beginner up-to-speed on basics\, to give both the rookie and intermediate canyoneer new tools for his/her toolbox and will help intermediate canyoneers refine their current skill set!  The topics and skills covered will include: \n\nKnots\, Bends and Hitches\nCanyon Rating System\nRules\, Ethics\, Style\, Communication and Courtesy\nSpecific Gear Choices\, Requirements\, Use and Care\nBelays\, Lowering and Handlines\nNatural\, Artificial\, Transient & Human Anchors\nStatic and Contingency Riggings\nRope Deployment\, Coiling\, Bagging and Etiquette\nRappelling Techniques & On-Rope Skills \n (Adding Friction Pre-rappel\, Mid-rappel\, Locking Off\, etc.)\nSpecialized Rappelling Techniques \n (Hard Starts\, Soft Starts\, Free-Hanging\, Over-Hanging\, etc.)\nBasic Climbing & Down Climbing Skills \n (Bridging\, Stemming\, Partner Assists\, Partner Captures\, etc.)\nSafety Checking and Basic Self-Rescue\nAnd\, within each of these broad subjects are a myriad of skills and tools.\n\nInstructors:  Todd Kolberg\, and team \nThe cost of this course is only $395! SUMMARY:UBERFest: Death Valley 2023
DESCRIPTION:UBERFest: Death Valley 2023\nDECEMBER DATES: Wednesday\, December 13 – Sunday\, December 17 \nThe only fee for this 4-day canyoneering extravaganza is a $35/person non-refundable cost-sharing fee\, which includes camping at the Furnace Creek Campground Group Site\, a pot luck\, and some cool swag. Or make arrangements for your own accommodations and the fee is only $15. However\, remember that this is a National Park\, so you will also need a National Parks Pass or pay the park entry fee. \nAs canyoneering is an inherently dangerous activity\, this event is only open to those with professional canyoneering training or significant canyoneering experience.  And\, as this is a social event\, anyone competent/qualified to lead a canyon should plan on helping to lead rookies through some awesome canyons! If you want to go to this event\, get the training and become a competent participant and valuable team member! There are several Uber Adventures Technical Canyoneering Courses (ACE-L1) offered between now and this event. \n   \nTHE CANYONS: There are a number of different mountain ranges in Death Valley with a variety of canyons to fit all skill levels. AND – permits are not required to descend canyons here. \nBolting is not allowed in the park\, so this is the perfect place to hone your natural anchor building skills. Bring your A-game! \nWEATHER: The average high/low for this time of year is 65°/38°\, making it the perfect time to explore these canyons! \n \nSome of the logistics:\nTHE GROUP CAMPSITE:  I’ve reserved group site #2 at Furnace Creek Campground for a maximum of 40 people. The group campground is for tent camping only with limited vehicle parking. The campground accommodations include water\, flush toilets\, picnic tables\, and fire pits/grills. We can accommodate up to 40 people\, but only 10 cars at the site! \nThe Group Campsite will also lend itself for all group activities including gathering for ridesharing\, meals\, the potluck\, games and especially\, CAMARADERIE!  Because we will always want to get a super early start for our canyons and morning shuttles\, our evenings at the group campsite will end early so people can get their sleep. \nThe campground also has RV spaces and individual tent sites available. If you want to go that route\, you may be able to reserve one on your own. Individual reservations at Furnace Creek are now open. Stovepipe Wells (first come\, first serve) and Slabby Acres (free) are other camping options. Or you can splurge and stay at more luxurious accommodations nearby. Contact me for more details. If this is your choice\, you’ll be responsible for making (and paying for) your own arrangements. \nCARPOOL! DO IT!  Two-three people to a car would be reasonable when you consider camping gear\, coolers\, canyoneering gear and shuttling to the canyons. \nYou are responsible for your own travel and your own meals – except – we should absolutely do a POTLUCK on Saturday evening at 7:00pm.  Bring something delicious to share. This might also be the time for us to have movie night and an awesome campfire (weather permitting)\, so bring some firewood!
