DESCRIPTION:Learn to Rappel Class       \nInterested in learning to Rappel or maybe even Canyoneer?\nThis rappelling class is a great introduction to rappelling.  Have fun and learn how to safely descend a rope!  This class is appropriate for any skill level\, and we can accommodate families as well.  The class could also be used as a steppingstone to the sport of canyoneering – or possibly even climbing or caving (which also involve rappels).  We will cover the following skills related to rappelling: \n\nGear and Gear Strength\nFirefighter’s Belay / Bottom Belay\nSite Safety\nSafety Check\nCommunication\nRappelling Technique and Instruction\n\n\nIncluding Adding Friction Pre-rappel\, Mid-rappel and Locking Off\n\n\n\nWe will spend the morning learning and rappelling on single strand 8.3mm Imlay Canyon Fire and 9.2mm Imlay Canyonero canyoneering ropes using the Sterling ATS descender. \n\nIf you don’t know how to rappel – come learn.\nIf you know how to rappel – come practice and consider signing up for our Rappel and Gear Workshop in the afternoon.\n\nThis Learn to Rappel Class will last all morning – 7am-11:00pm so bring lunch & water!  You will be required to sign a release of liability and assumption of risk.  We should be able to do multiple rappels\, playing with friction\, locking off\, and building confidence.  You will need to arrive at 7am for the instruction\, and then you are welcome to do as many rappels as you would like up to 11am – it’s YOUR day. \nGear for this class will be provided. However\, if you own gear that you want to use – bring it!  Whether it’s a climbing harness\, any kind of helmet (climbing\, bicycling\, kayaking\, snowboarding\, etc.)\, a pair of gloves (mechanics\, cycling\, weightlifting\, garden\, etc.)\, you are welcome to bring it and we’ll inspect it and discuss it.  Feel free to bring any gear you have questions about … we’re happy to show you how to use your own descender and to answer any/all gear questions. \nWe will be scrambling around a lot as we rappel\, scramble back up\, rappel\, scramble back up\, rappel\, scramble back up\, etc.\, so wear some comfortable shoes with good ‘grip’.  Trail\, running\, approach shoes all work well (don’t wear rock climbing shoes or open toe footwear such as sandals). Bring sunscreen\, sunglasses\, maybe a hat\, and clothes/layers appropriate for the forecast.  The training location is close to Nederland\, so it’s usually 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Boulder – so factor that into your gear choices. \nThis Learn to Rappel Class is open to everyone\, so invite your friends\, your teenage kids\, your spouse to join!  If you’d like to organize a private event for your students\, colleagues\, friends or for a family reunion\, just give us a shout!  This event also is a tremendous team-building activity! \nThe cost for this class is only $99 per person!!  The $99 is non-refundable but may be put toward a future rappelling class in the same calendar year if 30-day notice is given cancelling your participation on this date.  Read more company/course policies here. \nInstructor:  AJ Pastula (Boulder\, CO)

The course will reconvene on Saturday and Sunday at the same location and will run from 7am to 5 or 6pm both days with hands on learning. Please select another date. \nThis is America’s first\, original\, Swiftwater course designed specifically for canyoneers! Tuition includes camping\, elaborate handouts\, and a Certificate of Completion!  It will begin at 7am each day and will finish around 3:00pm on Friday and Saturday\, and at 5:00pm on Sunday. \nThis course will be challenging … and empowering!\nCanyons with strong current\, water volume and hydraulics pose dangers that dry-ish canyons (Class ‘A’) and low-flow or standing-water canyons (Class ‘B’) do not.  This course provides skills\, knowledge and experiential training FOR exactly that type of environment\, IN exactly that type of environment.  We’ve taken the relevant skills from a Swiftwater Rescue Course and combined them with the relevant skills for Canyoneering in Class ‘C’ canyons and have produced this hybrid Swiftwater Canyoneering Course! \nYou must provide your own transportation to and from the location; you must provide your own PPE including your standard canyoneering gear (harness\, helmet\, hardware\, etc)\, AND a full wetsuit (4/3 preferred) and a Type 3 PFD.  Uber Adventures will provide the ropes and all training equipment. \nPrerequisites:  This course cannot be your first foray into the sport of canyoneering.  The skills and methods in this course are a supplement to previous training.  While we recommend that you have taken Uber Adventures Technical Canyoneering Course (ACE-L1) AND at least one of the Uber Adventures Advanced Canyoneering (ACE-L2)\, or Canyon Essentials (ACE-L3)\, or Canyon Rescue (ACE-L4) courses\, exceptions can be made by request if 1) you have taken a thorough series of other APPROVED courses\, or 2) you have SIGNIFICANT canyoneering experience\, or 3) you plead your case well! DESCRIPTION:3-Day Technical Canyoneering Course (ACE-L1) Boulder\, CO – with Optional Monday Descent\nLearn to Canyoneer!     \nCanyoneering and Canyoning are terms used to describe an adventure sport that combines hiking\, wading\, swimming\, jumping\, sliding\, boulder-hopping\, scrambling\, rock-climbing\, sometimes packrafting and always rappelling — often over waterfalls. \nCanyoneering is an emerging adventure sport in the US and has grown significantly in popularity over the past decade.  This sport has unique risks and requires a very specific set of technical skills to enjoy it safely.  Rock-climbing\, caving\, mountaineering and swift water training teach related skills for your ‘toolbox’\, but Canyoneering has become highly specialized\, and much of the gear and many of the techniques of Canyoneering are distinctly different from those of the other sports …and that’s where we come in! \nPrerequisite: None \nThis is a beginner to intermediate course which teaches the skills necessary to safely descend canyons as part of a group (being a competent participant and the knowledge to recognize and implement safe canyon practices). This course is designed to quickly get the beginner up-to-speed on basics\, to give both the rookie and intermediate canyoneer new tools for his/her toolbox and will help intermediate cayoneers refine their current skill set!  The topics and skills covered will include: \n\nKnots\, Bends and Hitches\nCanyon Rating System\nRules\, Ethics\, Style\, Communication and Courtesy\nSpecific Gear Choices\, Requirements\, Use and Care\nBelays\, Lowering and Handlines\nNatural\, Artificial\, Transient & Human Anchors\nStatic and Contingency Riggings\nRope Deployment\, Coiling\, Bagging and Etiquette\nRappelling Techniques & On-Rope Skills \n(Adding Friction Pre-rappel\, Mid-rappel\, Locking Off\, etc.)\nSpecialized Rappelling Techniques \n(Hard Starts\, Soft Starts\, Free-Hanging\, Over-Hanging\, etc.)\nBasic Climbing & Down Climbing Skills \n(Bridging\, Stemming\, Partner Assists\, Partner Captures\, etc.)\nSafety Checking and Basic Self-Rescue\nAnd\, within each of these broad subjects are a myriad of skills and tools.\n\nInstructor:  AJ Pastula\, \nThe cost of this course is $395. (The course fee is non-refundable but may be put toward a future class during the same calendar year if 30-day notice is given\, cancelling your participation in this course.  If 30-day notice is not given\, the remaining balance will be due whether you attend the course or not.)  Please read more course/company policies here. \nSCHEDULE: This class will begin on Friday evening (meeting at 6:00pm to around 9pm.) An e-mail with specific directions\, and a link\, will be sent about a week or two prior to the class. Friday will be an orientation and introduction with an emphasis on the canyon rating system\, gear\, weather\, canyon topography … and getting to know each other. The course will reconvene on Saturday and Sunday at the same location and will run from 7am to 5 or 6pm both days with hands on learning. There will be an optional Monday descent where you can apply the skills you learned over the weekend – we will discuss details during the course. \nRequired gear for this course is a harness and a helmet (We will loan these out if you don’t have them)\, and we’ll also be loaning out carabiners\, descenders\, tethers\, foot loops\, prussiks\, etc.  Feel free to borrow our gear for this course\, until you determine what your needs will be.

The practical experience that you gain during this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to tackle advanced canyon obstacles and many unexpected situations. This extremely popular curriculum has set the standard by which all other courses and curriculums may be judged. This course was designed primarily to meet the needs of recreational canyoneers\, but also forms the training foundation for those planning to seek certification as a Professional Canyon Guide (ACE-L5). \nPrerequisite: Uber Adventures’ Technical Canyoneering Course (ACE-L1) or Instructor permission.
