Description
Rappel and Gear Workshop
Want to try out different canyon specific descenders and canyoneering ropes? Interested in checking out some of the best packs for canyoneering?
This Rappel and Gear Workshop is designed for those that already know how to rappel. (Otherwise, please sign up for the morning Learn to Rappel course.) From noon to 4pm, we will have multiple ropes set up (by request), and you can see how they feel on rappel. You can either use your own descender, or try one of the many we will bring for folks to try! We will also give tips on rappelling techniques. Feel free to ask us any gear or technique questions as well. We are happy to help! From 4 to 5pm, we will go over packs and rope bags, and answer any other gear questions as well. (Specific gear options are detailed below. Feel free to reach out to us with other gear requests such as canyon harnesses; we may have them for you to check out.)
This Rappel and Gear Workshop will last all afternoon from Noon to 5pm so bring snacks & water! You will be required to sign a release of liability and assumption of risk. We should be able to do many rappels on different ropes and descenders.
Gear for this class can be provided by request. You are also welcome (and encouraged) to bring and use your own gear. We will do a quick inspection to make sure it’s appropriate and in good shape. Feel free to also bring any gear you have questions about. We’re happy to show you how to use your own descender and to try to answer any/all gear questions.
We will be scrambling around a lot as we rappel, scramble back up, rappel, scramble back up, rappel, scramble back up, etc., so wear some comfortable shoes with good ‘grip’. Trail, running, approach shoes all work well (don’t wear rock climbing shoes or open toe footwear such as sandals). Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, maybe a hat, and clothes/layers appropriate for the forecast. The training location is close to Nederland, so it’s usually 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Boulder – so factor that into your gear choices.
This Rappel and Gear Workshop open to anyone who already knows how to rappel, especially if you want to see and try out different ropes, descenders, packs and rope bags prior to purchasing your own. If you’d like to organize a private event for your students, colleagues, friends or for a family reunion, just give us a shout! This event also is a tremendous team-building activity!
The cost for this workshop is only $49 per person! The $49 is non-refundable but may be put toward a future Rappel and Gear Workshop in the same calendar year if 30-day notice is given cancelling your participation on this date. Read more company/course policies here.
