UBERFest: Vegas 2015
November 4, 2015 - November 8, 2015
UBERFest: Vegas 2015!!
Who wants to go to Las Vegas for some canyoneering?!
The only fee for this 4-day canyoneering extravaganza is a $30/person non-refundable cost-sharing fee which includes camping at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area’s Group Campground … and a location off-site for showers … woohoo!! (Please carpool as parking is our limiting factor!) As canyoneering is an inherently dangerous activity, this event is only open to those with professional canyoneering training or significant canyoneering experience. And, as this is a social event, anyone competent/qualified to lead a canyon should plan on helping to lead rookies through some awesome, canyons!
If you want to go to this event (or any UBERFest) … get the required Uber Adventures training and become a competent participant and valuable team member!
CAMPING: I’ve reserved group campsites in Lake Mead NRA, NV. The group campground is for tent camping only with limited vehicle parking. Group campground accommodations include water, a common area restroom, picnic tables, fire pit and limited shaded areas. We can accommodate about 60 people/tents, but only half as many cars!
WEATHER: Highs in the 50’s-60’s and lows in the 40’s … this is the perfect time of year to explore this part of Vegas Canyoneering … when it’s cool enough to enjoy the hot springs!
CARPOOL: DO IT! It’s 5 hours away from LA. 2-3 people to a car would be reasonable when you consider camping gear, coolers, canyoneering gear and shuttling to the canyons. Also, it is likely that you will be doing some of your canyoneering with your carpool mate since you are sharing transportation. Many of the roads to the canyons in this area require high clearance or 4×4 .. when you are making your choices for drivers, please keep that in mind!
You are responsible for your own travel, and your own meals …except!… we will absolutely DO A POTLUCK at 6:00pm on Saturday evening … picnic-type food! i.e.: pasta salad, burgers, sausages, potato salad, cole slaw, hot dogs, buns, chips, salsa, salads, beer, wine, jello, …your family favorite! Please do not plan on bringing dessert unless you are baking it yourself .. Plan on bringing a main course, salad or side dish to feed 4-6 people (not enough to feed an army .. that’s not necessary!), and the means with which to cook/heat it up/serve it … if required. Also, you are responsible to provide your own plate, cup, spoon, knife, fork .. etc.
CANYONEERING: We are camping near the ‘Black Canyon’ canyoneering region of Las Vegas, NOT the Red Rocks Region. Some of these canyons have hot springs, small waterfalls, a lot of them end at the Colorado River and some require a short packraft either up or down stream in order to exit. In addition to the Canyoneering, there are awesome hikes to hot springs, kayak rentals from Willow Beach, tours of the Hoover Dam, and a crappy casino not far from camp (if you like that sort of thing!) For those of you who need beta for the 17 technical and non-technical hikes in the Black Canyon region, I have for sale the new book — Las Vegas Slots: A Guide to Canyoneering in Southern Nevada … pick one up from the Uber Adventures store in Chatsworth or give me a shout and I can mail you one ($24.95 + tax & S&H)!
DIRECTIONS TO THE CAMPSITE: Will be provided to participants.
